Athletes and Financial Education: Success-Building Mindsets

Athletes and Financial Education: Success-Building Mindsets

Athletes cultivate a mindset and habits that have tremendous overlap with what it takes to build out a successful financial plan.

Success in both areas requires an Intentional Approach, Goal-Setting and a Focus on the Process. And, of course, you have to believe in yourself and be willing to put in the effort.

Intentionality

“Discipline is choosing what you want most.”

“Energy follows focus.”

Athletes already have a sense of agency because they believe their efforts and training will lead them towards the outcomes they want. They know the path to success requires them to practice self-discipline and deferred gratification. The same is true for building out your financial plan.

Goals

“ The will to win means nothing without the will to prepare.”  - Juma Ikangaa

Athletes set big goals that are worth achieving. They harness their desire to continually improve and to move towards those goals over time. The foundation of your financial plan will be your goals and they too will be spread out over time.

Focus on the Process

“Control the controllables.”

Athletes embrace a consistent work ethic and analytical approach that leads to the big wins. They work with coaches, trainers and psychologists to identify their areas for improvement. When it comes to building a successful financial plan, you will need to similarly need to access the education, advisors and coaches that you will need to create your own success.

The Mindset is the Link

Financial education can be the bridge from your winning mindset to your future financial success. It’s a relatively small investment in figuring out the key areas of focus so that you can build a successful wealth plan.

The Worth Knowing Essential Series outlines the basics so you can get started building your wealth plan today.

If Personal Finance Education Was A Sport

If personal finance education were a sport, here’s how I would describe the three components of the series.

Part One: Practice

The Paycheques and Plans course establishes the daily practices and a goal-setting mindset that lay the foundation for your future financial success.

Part Two: Defence

The Canadian Consumer Credit Essentials is the equivalent to working on your defensive strategy. What do you need to know so that you can protect yourself as you move forward to achieving your financial goals.

Part Three: Offence

Once you set up your practice, routines, and your defensive strategies,  it’s time to start tuning up your offence with the Using Registered Accounts To Build Wealth course that provides you with insight into some key concepts, accounts, and investment products that you can use to start growing your savings into wealth.

When it comes to building wealth, time is one of your most valuable assets. Don’t wait!  Get the information you need to get started today!
